Avoiding Monsanto Seed: A Worthy Challenge

I came across this list of companies who use Monsanto seed on Garden of Eatin. I thought now would be a good time to share as I have been going through my own seed catalogs and planning my garden.

Please feel free to make additions and or corrections.

  1. Actually, in your list of companies that "Do" - you may have some that don't really use Monsanto seeds. They DO sell seeds offered by Seminis, which is Monsanto's owned seed house. But these companies may limit their purchases to non-Monsanto seeds. Seminis bought up a lot of seed suppliers over the last decade or so and when they bought those companies, they also became an owner of those companies' seed patents. So if you want to grow Big Boy Tomatoes, you have to buy them from Seminis even if Big Boy is not a Monsanto seed.

    Still, I do agree with the boycott, it may seem like a small distinction, but I think it might prove important on down the road. Don't feed the Monsanto beast any more than we have to!
